Keeping Track of Trips

I have always used typed itineraries or spreadsheets for trips, but for the World Cup, I have been using TripIt. It is a cool website where you can set up a free account (pay accounts have other features like real time tracking) and you can email your confirmations and they will automatically set up an itinerary.

Now, you have to use major airline, car rental, hotel website confirmations, but it is very neat and saves a great deal of time trying to orgainize...

World Cup - Day 12 - June 20th

Today, we decide to take in some of the scenery around Cape Town. After breakfast in Kalk Bay (it is quickly turning into our favorite town), we head out towards Simons Town and the head out towards the Cape of Good Hope...the southwestern most tip of Africa. Just to let you know....that is not where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet...that is another Cape further east. The park is very scenic, has great beaches, picnic areas, light houses, and hiking trails. You could really spend time here and get to see lots of things. Our goal, was to the Cape. We make the long hikes up to the viewing points and even make it to the lighthouse. There were some burning legs on the way up. It is not a leisurely climb. We take some great pics and head out to our next spot, Boulders Beach. There is a type of penguin, the African, and this is one of its main stomping grounds and breeding areas. World Cup Stay in South Africa

It's amazing the price gouging that happens during special events. Where you could rent a hotel for $95 a night is now close to $250 per night with what would be considered a 2-3 star hotel. I had mentioned advanced planning and we were lucky enough to be staying at Waybury House in the Sandton area. If you want to check it out, here is the link: http://www.wayburyhouse.co.za/index.html Originally, I wanted to stay near Sun City and visit Pilanesburg National Park, but it turns out FIFA booked out 97% of the rooms in that area and used companies to repackage them for increased pricing....smart for them, bad for us. So what if you are single or traveling hostel style? An interesting idea popped up by some locals and they come up with a hostel concept in the heart of Johannesburg.
