World Cup 2010

Well, after a long battle to get organized, plans are coming together to go to the World Cup in South Africa. In the next couple of weeks, I will be telling you on the preparation for the trip, costs, and the itinerary. If you are going to the World Cup, I would love to hear from you and want you to share your ideas, thoughts, and frustrations as well.

It's amazing the price gouging that happens during special events. Where you could rent a hotel for $95 a night is now close to $250 per night with what would be considered a 2-3 star hotel. I had mentioned advanced planning and we were lucky enough to be staying at Waybury House in the Sandton area. World Cup 2010 - Day 5 - June 13th

Today is a free day, we have no plans even though we thought about doing another tour to a village to learn about the culture. In the end, we decide to do a little shopping. Brandi and Joseph still have no baggage, so we head to Standton City Mall and the surrounding areas. The area is nice and has a nice range of shops, etc. We are able to get what they need and find some souvenirs for family and friends. It is also nice to have a relaxing day since Juliana and I are both having some stomach issues and trying to adjust. Juliana had a bad evening and we started her on some antibiotics. Just hope and pray for a speedy recovery! The ride there and back are given to us by Pat and Nick (the couple who owns Waybury House, Themba tours, etc.) We ask them questions about their relationship, motivation for a business like this, what they enjoy in life (cycling is one of them!), etc. It was great to spend time with a cool couple who have been married nearly 25 years. Flying around in Europe

On our trip to Europe 2 years back, we had the decision to make whether to take the rail or fly around. Once we did the numbers, it was clear that flying was our best choice. Europe has an abundance of low cost carriers. Most everyone knows of Ryanair, but there are plenty which are better. The only problem are the fees. They can add up fast, especially for baggage, but if you do careful reading, you can get around cheap. I typically start at www.bravofly.com and then work to the individual airlines, but you can find some good deals there. Check it out and let me know of other links to good flights.
